SURPRISE! You get another sneak preview

Here is another sneak preview of AIR BRIDGE BERLIN

This excerpt takes place one early morning a couple of months after the start of the Operation Vittles. Enjoy...

A yellow, meat delivery truck labelled “Schenker Fleischwaren” pulls up to the Herrfurthstrasse Gate at the east end of Tempelhof Airport. The driver slowly approaches the gate and dims his headlights. He comes to a stop and the passenger door opens. A figure clad in a dark leather coat, a stocking cap and carrying a weapon steps out of passenger side of the truck and walks to the gate. He checks his watch, which reads 0515. Only 27 minutes until sunrise.

“Hey pal, RAUS!” said the Infantryman tasked to guard the gate.

“Hey pal,” responded the dark figure.

“Oh it’s you. Hurry up, the Lieutenant just left,” he said as made his way towards the handle that opens the gate.

The dark figure helps open the gate and waves the truck in once it is open. As the truck passes the gate, the figure jumps into the passenger door which he left open.

The gate guard was US Army Infantryman Pfc. Carbrey Allan. He closed the gate but did not secure it. He also checked to make certain his M1 Garand Rifle was loaded and ready, which he would normally do even when the gate was secured. He continued walking outside the guard shack as the morning twilight started to break across the sky. He was watching for the truck to come to a stop and shut off its lights. Then could he secure the gate. He was also looking for the Lieutenant, his driver and his relief.

Back by the airplane unloading area, the truck stops and back into a tent whose front exit is facing runway 29 but far enough away that several cargo planes could park next to each other without ever coming close enough to interfere with takeoff and landing operations. Once in place the driver turns off the truck and kills the lights. The passenger gets out, with his weapon drawn, and heads over to inspect the tent. Inside he sees one lantern hanging on the main tent pole. Inside except the man he is point his pistol at there is nothing else.

“What are you doing? Put that away before you shoot someone,” said a male in a green work overalls and his .45 cocked and drawn to the dark figure as he entered the tent.

“You first,” he replied.

...more coming soon.

Want To Meet The Character?

Greetings Readers,
Earlier last week, I came across a blog that offered some ideas for authors to use on their blogs. Being an author (well at least, I think I am) I am giving one a shot.

This blog idea runs right along with my need to work on character development. Thus, I am going to present you with an interview with the Main Character.

That's right, starting with the AIR BRIDGE BERLIN, I will be posting a "virtual" interview with the main character. Who knows I might just go back in time with the main character from "Doughboy City"

How will this work?

Real simple, I will create a set of 10 questions that I will used for every future main character interview and post the answer as if the main character was the one answering question (because they will be).

In the case of AIR BRIDGE BERLIN, the main character's name is Tony Henriquez, Corporal with the US Army Infantry on special duty as Guard Detail NCO in charge of a 9-man guard detail that monitors the perimeter access points of Tempelhof Airport during the Blockade of Berlin. Tony is eager to share his story with you.

So, be on the look out for that interview in the coming days.

FYI, there will be no spoiler in this (or any future) interview. Spoilers will come later, as their own postings.

Happy Saint Valentine's Day

Want to wish all my readers and followers and visitors a Happy Saint Valentine's Day!

Just a brief update:

1. I am about 75% done with the 1st edit.

2. All the characters still need a little more development and I am working to improve that. It is my understanding that you can never have enough character development. However, you have to be careful not to reveal so much that the story becomes about the character's past and not about the story itself. Therefore, I subscribe to the notion of "I would rather go to jail for not giving out too much information than to go to jail for giving out too much." If that makes sense to you.

3. Do you have any ideas on what future books should be about? I would really like to read what you have to say. (P.S. the next book is a ghost story set during Christmas time. You figure out where in OCCUPIED BERLIN it will take place.)

Cheers!
David

Air Bridge Berlin (February update #1)

Hello and Welcome to February. One month done and 11 more to go. However, in the meantime, I have been moving right along with Air Bridge Berlin.

As promised here is a very brief excerpt from the next book in the Occupied Berlin series: Air Bridge Berlin

This excerpt is from Chapter One.
The scene is set in the office of the US Military Governor of Germany in Berlin. The time is the very early morning hours a little after the Soviets began their notorious blockade of Berlin. The highest ranking military official in Germany is on the telephone with the President of the United States. They just finished discussing what has just transpired at all access points in and out of the western sectors of the city of Berlin and what actions they will take.

“Mr. President let me get this day started. Our next phone call is scheduled
for 0900 local which is about seven hours from now.”

“Yes, now go get dressed,” said the President.

“Yes, sir. I will talk to you in a while. I should have more for you then.”

              *CLICK.*

Putting the phone on the receiver the General starts to get dressed into his
uniform but changes his mind. He writes a quick note and carries it with him
as he walks over to the small leather couch in the far side of the room. He lays
down on the couch and puts the note on his chest and quickly drifts off to sleep.

A few minutes later, Major Jerry Van Busch walks in with a tray carrying the
hot coffee. He sees that the General has fallen asleep. Setting the tray down the
Major picks up the note and reads it:

                      Jerry,
                      Wake me up at 0500.
                      Staff Meeting at 0600.
                      Keep the coffee warm.
Get a nap if you can
                                           L.

With that, the beginning of a very long day was underway.

I know it is not very long but I promise I will post more soon.
Thank you,
David
