About Creating the Bad Guys (ABB)

01/27/2014: Tonight, I was working on creating the Antagonist of the story and his henchmen. Normally, I am OK with creating bad guys. However, tonight I created one that took great pleasure in hurting American POWs when he was an Intelligence Officer for the Germans during WWII. I know that POWs were mistreated during their incarceration in Germany. It goes without saying that things were done to try to extract information that may be used to some advantage by the enemy.

One character, who I hope will meet a horrific ending was created. I was a little troubled in creating this bad guy. It was the background that I was writing almost felt like I was betraying all those men that were held in a POW camp during World War II. You could say I connected with that bad guy at a level that made me hate him right from the start. Still, it did not make me feel any better about creating his history.

I guess as the song by Genesis goes "you gotta get in to get out" applies here. I have to create him to hate him and to get rid of him. Controlling this character's demise will make it all worth the while.

Can you believe that January is almost over? Time certainly is flying when you are having fun and I am having a lot of fun writing AIR BRIDGE BERLIN (ABB). It certainly is starting to take on a life of its own and that's a good thing.

On writing Air Brigade Berlin (update #1)

Well, I am well underway in writing AIR BRIDGE BERLIN.

Yep, the first chapter rough draft is done. As all first rough drafts go there is so much in those that more than likely the final product will look nothing like what I just wrote.

That's OK you have to begin somewhere.Then you know which direction you are heading.

About Chapter 1 (oh yes, you are going on the journey with me).
We are introduced to the situation and my hypothetical take on the first conversation after the roads and railways are shut down.

Hopefully, it has enough to keep you interest enough to turn to Chapter 2 and all the chapters after that.

ANNOUNCING: AIR BRIDGE BERLIN

On the eve of the publication of my first work of fiction: DOUGHBOY CITY, I am pleased to announce the title of the next book in the Occupied Berlin series: AIR BRIDGE BERLIN.

AIR BRIDGE BERLIN is set in Berlin, the skies over Berlin & East Germany, and in West Germany during the Soviet Blockade of Berlin (1948-1949).

The Soviet Blockade of Berlin tested the resolve of the United States and its western allies (U.K. and France) to remain in Berlin after the Second World War. The Soviets wanted to starve the citizens of the western sectors of Berlin in order to force the Allies to withdraw and give the Soviets unimpeded access to control the entire city. A city 110 miles behind the Iron Curtain, a free city because of the US, UK, and French commitment to remain in Berlin. The Soviet Blockade eventually ended in the spring of 1949.

Set during this highly volatile time, Air Bridge Berlin is a story of a soldier who inadvertently gets involved in something bigger than himself. He becomes part of something so huge that if revealed the repercussions would be far greater and far more reaching than anyone could ever imagine. When a murder occurs and a vicious plan must be stopped before it is put into play, the soldier enters into a fight for his life, the life of every man, woman, and child in the city of Berlin, and the rest of the Free World.
