If you have been paying attention to the posts on this blog you have seen that the last line of each post mentions the title (or working title) of the next book in the Occupied Berlin series.
The time has come to reveal the title of the next book in the Occupied Berlin series:
SPANDAU GUARD
The story is set in West Berlin at the infamous (or notorious) SPANDAU PRISON. A US Army Infantry soldier and his colleagues serve guard duty during the month of December and spends the entire Christmas season guarding a war criminal. Military Forces, International Politics, and the aftermath of World War II in Berlin all play second fiddle to a rumor that has not changed since the first day Spandau Prison was re-opened for business by the British, French, Russians, and the Americans.
In western Berlin, Spandau Prison housed the seven Nazi's that were convicted at the Nuremberg Trials after World War II. From the first day, the seven convicts arrived at Spandau until the 17th day of August 1987, each month the four World War II allies would take turns guarding the prison and its prisoners for month long rotation. The rotation went British, French, Soviet, and then the US. Each month, like clockwork this changeover of control of the prison went on without fail. No matter what the global political climate was, the changeover took place.
When it came to governing the future of the former German capital, this was one of the few things that all four World War II allies could agree upon. Keeping the seven most dangerous men in the world locked up. However, the true danger was not the former Nazi's but the place that was to be their home until their sentence was up. The true danger was the prison itself.
Since its inception, Spandau Prison had seen many things happen to bad people but when bad things started happening to good people, something changed. Spandau Prison became the first chamber of horrors that would become the definition of what a madman envisioned for the world, if he had it his way.
Set in the month of December (the U.S. Guard rotation month) and starting on the day of the changeover from the Soviets, a young G.I. is warned of some strange happenings when a Soviet private utters a single word as he is being relieved of his guard post.
While the spirit of Christmas may be in the air throughout the city of Berlin, at Spandau a different spirit is in the air. The young Infantry soldier soon finds that Spandau Guard means more than babysitting a group of old men, it means revealing a past that was supposed to be scrubbed clean and forgotten.
SPANDAU GUARD is set for an October 14, 2014 release. However, be on the lookout for excerpts to be released in the coming months. Additionally, an introduction will be published soon and available on Kindle and Nook for $0.00.
